The Mom was reading the New York Times and saw this article about genetically mutated hypo-allergenic kitties. OK, they are kitties, but they are mutant kitties. I'm sorry. It's bad enough that the humans add growth hormones to Moo-cows and change the genetics on corn to make it more durable (or something like that).
This is so freaking stupid.
Oh ya, you can give me the whole argument of "well this means people can enjoy the company of cats who couldn't before." Two problems with this. One, if they really loved cats, they would put up with the sneezies. Heck, the Dad is highly allergic to cats and he's still with the Mom six years and nine cats later. He loves all of us, including the Annoying one who is a huge bundle of allergy causing snot. Secondly, there are so many kitties out there who need homes. Why should some idiot spend $4,000 on a cat when there are so many loving little furballs at the shelters who can go home right now for the cost of dinner at a fast food place?

Yeah, rite on. Daddy gets the itchy watery eye thingies and momma has to take pills efurry day - but they luv us and arr willin to do dese tings so's dey can keep us.
You said it Ayla.
$4,000! Rescue a kitty who needs a home and buy medicines for the sneezies! And give the rest of the monies to the shelter to help with vet bills and food and stuff. Stupid beans! Go, Ayla!
I'll be contrary here...some People who are allergic are so allergic they have alot more than sneezies--they get Anna Fill Axis and can die. So they just don't have kitties. But if there was a kitty that wouldn't kill them, it would be nice.
Besides, if they can do this with a kitty, it might mean making a giant leap in genetics that will cure some other Ick that People might get that they can die from.
Yes, vary true. We agree that they shuld put thare effurts into finding homes fur the kitties that dont have one.
My ladys brothur is allurjic to us. Its so sad cause we rub all ovur him to show him we like him but he can't stay with us long. Hes luking into geting a hedgehog...if he does, we'd like to meet him.
Yeah, the Giggy is pretty pissed that someone would spend $4000 on a kitty....that is not him! He has his eye on a Tiffany pendant that would fit nicely into that budget.
We are against any and all genetic manipulation of anything, Cats, people, animals, or food. I feel sorry for those poor Cats who had to be subjected to human experiements simply for profit.
Oh Ayla, you are furry right. Isn't that weird? Kitties that you aren't allergic too.
This soapbox is gettin crowded, but I'll join you up there.
DON'T TOUCH ME!!!
Sorry. Max has a point, but... better to live without a cat of yur own an give the $4000 to a shelter.
They can NOT take away our power ofur allergic people. I can make my woman's coworker sneeze just wif a meow in her voicemail. Mwahahahahaha.
So what's a few allergies when you can be loved by a feline.
Actually, this isn't genetic manipulation as it is selected breeding. The gene that removes the allergen is a dominant gene so every kitten born to a mother with this gene will have non-allergen kittens. I thought it was frankenkitty at first when I heard about it, but it turns out that it is the similar gene that is in hypoallergenic dogs.
